Underdogs Gallery is proud to present “Under / Over Achiever” a solo exhibition by AkaCorleone in Lisbon, Portugal.
In his return to Underdogs, after his first solo exhibition at the gallery in 2014, AkaCorleone presents a patently personal reflection with narrative contours where he explores the interior efforts that orient and characterise his creative process. The body of work presented here, based on the fundamental concepts of opposition and duality, materialises an honest view on the way the artist manages his methodologies as well as the results that either fall short of or exceed his expectations, illustrating a whole array of stimuli and pressures, objectives and obstacles, certainties and insecurities, aspirations and anxieties, inspiration and creative block, that accompany him in his artistic practice.
Opening reception with the artist: Friday, 8 July 2016, 7pm – 10pm
About the artist:
AkaCorleone (b. 1985) is a visual artist of Portuguese and Swiss descent who started out as a graffiti writer in the underworld of his native Lisbon. A compulsive drawer, obsessed with all things graphic and visual from an early
age, he studied arts, earned a degree in Design and Visual Communication and worked as a graphic designer for a
few years, having left the profession to focus on his artistic practice. He is known today for his dexterity in using colours, typography, characters, and refined forms which he blends to achieve eye-catching compositions imbued with originality and an all-pervasive humour. He has been exhibiting his work in solo and group exhibitions since 2010.

“Over / Under Achiever”, uma exposição individual de AkaCorleone em Lisboa, Portugal.
No seu regresso à Underdogs, após a sua primeira exposição individual na galeria em 2014, AkaCorleone apresenta uma reflexão de natureza assumidamente pessoal e de contornos narrativos onde explora os esforços internos que orientam e caracterizam o seu processo criativo. O corpo de trabalho aqui apresentado, assente nos conceitos fundamentais de oposição e dualidade, materializa um olhar honesto sobre o modo como o artista gere as suas metodologias, assim como os resultados que ficam ora aquém, ora além, das
suas expectativas, ilustrando todo um conjunto de estímulos e pressões, objectivos e obstáculos, certezas e inseguranças, anseios e ansiedades, inspiração e bloqueio criativo, que o acompanham na sua prática artística.

Sobre o artista:
AkaCorleone (n. 1985) é um artista visual com ascendência portuguesa e suíça que iniciou o seu percurso como writer de graffiti no submundo da sua Lisboa natal. Desenhador compulsivo, obcecado desde novo por todas as coisas gráficas e visuais, estudou artes, licenciou-se em Design
e Comunicação Visual e trabalhou como designer gráfico durante alguns anos, tendo deixado a profissão para desenvolver a sua prática artística. Hoje é conhecido pela destreza com que joga com o uso de cores, tipografia, personagens e formas depuradas que combina de modo a produzir composições apelativas, imbuídas de originalidade e um humor abrangente. Tem apresentado o seu trabalho em exposições individuais e colectivas desde 2010.
